Changing the affected package to linux. In this context "firmware" is referring to the bios, not to any of the firmware that ships with Ubuntu.

Cristian, the mainline builds are provided for debugging purposes only and are not supported. Besides, what this message is saying is that your bios is doing something that the kernel thinks it shouldn't be doing and that the kernel is ignoring this invalid request. One workaround is to add "acpi_osi=Linux" to the kernel command-line parameters, but this may result in some change behaviors on your machine (some things may start working or stop working, depending on the bios).

Closing this bug as invalid. If you can demonstrate that passing "acpi_osi=Linux" fixes some problems on an _official_ Ubuntu kernel, we can reopen the bug and look at adding a quirk for this machine. You may also want to check for a bios update for your machine.

affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
