This bug exists since the 11.04 version, at least. There are computers with Atheros and driver's ath9k* in the OEM Ubuntu market. It seems that this terrible bug, that makes unusable the computer, (after all, why will you want a mobile computer that can't connect to wireless?) isn't getting the properly attention.
