Setting the user rights for wireless did not work for me either. I got my HP2133 to work by upgrading the Kernel to 2.6.39.0 and also installed Unity 2-D. I started off running Macbuntu on gnome but for some reason this Kernel set the panel to the legacy Ubuntu 7 style so I went Unity instead

Upgrading the Kernel to 2.6.39.0 is described at: ubuntuguide. net/ubuntu- 11-04-upgrade- linux-kernel- to-2-6- 39-0

I figure to go up Kernel versions rather than down as there are probably overall additional improvements that make a better experience.
