Loss of VT and recovery menu

Bug Description

A normal boot will not permit VT switching. This also applies to a recovery boot with the added symptom of the recovery menu never being reached.

Do you get a recovery menu if you add "-s" to the kernel command line in grub?

Negative. No recovery menu or VT.

In addition to James' request, has the BIOS on the machine itself been updated to the latest?
