The Red Hat bug is somewhat different as I believe they keep more old kernels around than Ubuntu. A broken resume from hibernate rarely results in complete data loss as the kernel buffers are usually flushed before the computer is hibernated. It's about as bad as doing as resetting after having run sync and having watied for it to finish.
