Bug Description

I upgraded to natty narwhal the other day and I am unable to connect to my wireless network. When I try to connect it just asks for the WPA2 password, and then this in dmesg:

[ 153.794015] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) (try 1/3)
[ 153.991634] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) (try 2/3)
[ 154.191641] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) (try 3/3)
[ 154.391609] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) timed out

And then it asks for the password again and repeats the process.

I also tried with no password on the wireless but it gives the same dmesg result with no password.

I'm not sure how much other information is being automatically provided by the bug reporter already, but its a netgear wg121 usb adapter using the p54usb driver.

Also, same hardware and everything else was all working fine in maverick.

Same problem for me.
Everything was ok before updating to natty.
I've got a netgear wg111 WIFI usb adpater.

Cannot post any diagnostics file because of this problem.

Same issue here.
I am using following wlan pcmcia adapter:

02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intersil Corporation ISL3890 [Prism GT/Prism Duette]/ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism Xbow] [1260:3890] (rev 01)

linux-wlan-ng and linux-firmware-nonfree installed.

When trying to connect to a network, I get the same error:

[ 153.794015] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) (try 1/3)
[ 153.991634] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) (try 2/3)
[ 154.191641] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) (try 3/3)
[ 154.391609] wlan0: direct probe to (routers mac address) timed out

Using the linux 2.6.39-1 mainline kernel fixed the problem, but I acctually would like to use the ubuntu stock kernel.
Do you need any more information?

This might be a duplicate of bug 722185 - could you test the kernel that is linked there in comment #17?

Thank you very much for pointing to that bug, and indeed it seems to be a duplicate - using the kernel posted there (2.6.38-9-generic #43+lp736490r1) worked, at least for me.
I also read that it is already upstream somewhere, so I guess we can expect an update pretty soon?

Should be fixed with the new kernel that was moved to -proposed a couple hours ago (2.6.38-10.44) - if there's no problems, it will be copied to -updates in about three weeks.

For some early testing:
Enable -proposed ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed ), pick only the linux related packages and then disable it again.

For Natty, this should be fixed now with 2.6.38-10.46.
Please reopen the Natty task if you still experience this issue.
