Comment 8 for bug 74372

Try this (I am running edgy, and there you can choose the older version of
cdparanoia).

find the sources for these two packages:

libcdparanoia0 3.a9.8-13
cdparanoia 3a9.8-13

compile those from scratch or if you can find a .deb use dpkg to install
this version and see what happens. It should resolve your system freeze
problem. If it doesn't you can always revert back to the most current
version on your next update.
