Recently upgraded Acer Aspire 5100-3949 having Atheros AR2413 wireless chip -- upgraded from Maverick 10.10 to Natty 11.04 and ran into this.

workaround in #6 MAY have worked (it still took several minutes for connection to9 come up, and based on past experience it may have come up randomly).

uname -a says:

Linux AcerA5100 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:50 UTC 2011 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
