Look at the bug 688383. It has similar as similar kernel boot Call Trace. I have also a DEL Vostro 1700 with 4GB of RAM. I also reported this bug to: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25402. It is a regression (possibly from 2.6.36-2 onwards). Mainline kernel 2.6.37-rc8 doesn't work either. It was already tagged as a regression (see: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.kernel/msg/4fecd51b083f565d).
Try to use Mainline kernel 2.6.36-2 from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.36.2-natty/ and (just in case) follow the guidelines from: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds#Installing%20Mainline%20Kernels
Meanwhile, let see if the problem is solved soon. carlos
