Bug Description

(I'm reporting this as a kernel bug based on the debugging Wiki.)

My Dell Vostro V13's trackpad is not recognized as such, rather it appears as a PS/2 mouse. Thus I cannot turn off the annoying default features (especially tap means click). The net effect is that it is nearly impossible to use this computer for it's intended purpose of taking minutes during standards meetings. If this is not fixed soon, I'll have to put Windows on this computer (Ugh).

I believe this worked properly with the factory Ubuntu distribution (09.04), although I cannot be certain without wiping the whole computer. Updating the factory distribution to 09.10 broke it, and it has remained broken through version 10.10.

I'm a very experienced computer user/programmer (I go back to CP/M, where I wrote my own device drivers), although I'm a newbie to Linux (and especially the GUI -- I did at lot of Unix work in the 1980's using the C-shell). So feel free to ask me for help/information/etc.

BTW, I'm presuming that the requested device and xinput information is in the automatically generated package; if not, please ask me for it.

              Randy.

I am affected by this though with a different dell model (vostro 1015). This seems to be a dupe of bug 689250.

Thanks, Xnotdead!

I've tried the kernel in "proposed" (after a couple of false starts) and it indeed seems to fix the trackpad problem. And just in time for my next meeting...
