I've seen a few ALC888 regressions in 10.10 and I suspect this is because of the new interpretation of SKU values. Could you see if the following helps you:
1) Run maverick without having any alsa driver overrides installed
2) Download and install http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/temp/alsa-hda-realtek-ignore-sku-dkms_1.0.23.diwic_all.deb
3) Reboot
4) Try both with and without the model=lenovo-sky (reboot in between)
5) Report back whether it works for you or not.

@Daniel, seems like this ALC888 has the same PCI SSID as in bug #611803, but the codec is different. The code path is not obvious as if they both lead to patch_alc662, but I think the ALC888 doesn't in this case.
