Vesselin Kostadinov doesn't blame hardware, he says this bug (or one of bugs discussed here) is hardware-dependent. I can confirm this too: initially I used
Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS, then I tried to replace it with Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB without success (nothing changed), then I replaced it with Samsung HD103UJ 1TB and this helps a lot - bug is still noticeable, but very very rarely and have much less impact on overall system performance.
