Sorry to jump in like this, but I had the previous bug about this open for many years, and it was closed for no good reason several times (by people who never bothered to try reproducing it), so I remain a bit sceptical. bbordwell: Did you try reproducing the problem with the new kernel? Have you confirmed that the problem is gone?

If not, would you please reopen this bug?

The email you link to seems to indicate that it is merely fixing a problem introduced a year ago. This problem is much, much older. I first experienced it at least ten years ago.
