Blank screen on Lucid kernel > 2.6.32-23 with Intel integrated graphics

The integrated graphics of my intel i5 540 does not work with the newest kernel 2.6.32-23, while it works with the older 2.6.32-22.
The screen is black, but the booting process seems to work with no problem (I can hear the login sound). I can also shutdown the computer normally typing blindly. I tried the " nosplash nomodeset" options in grub but that doesnt work (in that case the computer gets stuck and does not boot).

By the way, the i915.modeset=0 in the grub command line does not work (the splash screen is shown, but then the computer gets stuck).

I tried all the patches (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes) and workarounds (i915.modeset=0 or 1, xforceves) I could find. None works.
