Bug Description
I have a home server "appliance" that hums along just fine with 8.04 Server. I decided to do an upgrade today so I pulled the hard drive, installed 10.04 Server on the fresh hard drive, then hooked up my old drive as a slave hoping to copy my home folder over. After copying a dozen or so files, the system locked up hard. I had to reboot.
I've tried everything I can think of, even putting the old drive in a USB hard drive enclosure and using my laptop to copy files to a Samba share on the new drive. Same thing. Locks up after a few files.
I have found similar reports of file copy hangs, like this one with NFS:
http://
and 574693 which is for Nautilus, but this is copying files from an ext3 partition on one disk to an ext4 partition on another disk using the command line.

Joe, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please capture the oops following https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelTeam/ KernelTeamBugPo licies# Capturing_ OOPs ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal, as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:
apport-collect -p linux <replace- with-bug- number>
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. Please let us know your results.
Thanks in advance.
