I have a nv5911e, core i5. Ubuntu 10.10
1. Bios updated to v1.22, (this step alone don't solve the problem) 2. I used the kernel form: https://launchpad.net/~kamalmostafa/+archive/linux-kamal-mjgbacklight Thanks Kamal!! 3. I added /etc/default/grub:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_backlight=vendor"
4. Run: sudo update-grub
I have not detected any new problem with kernel or bios change. Not overheating detected yet
