I'm currently using the 2.6.33 mainline Ubuntu kernel as it contains the RV740 initialization fix and in UMS it works just fine (have yet to test some games).

As KMS is supposed to be the standard in future distributions, I take the time to report this bug here to assist in fixing it.

When I try to boot with KMS I only get a screen (although it seems the correct resolution) displaying various horizontal and vertical bends in all possible colors like some strange moire effect.

Changing to a VT is not possible too so the system is basically unusable. But the system itself is still responsive and I can reboot the system with CTRL+ALT+DEL.

System overview:

- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4
- CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.2GHz)
- RAM: 2x 2 GiB DDR3 (1.3 GHz)
- GPU: PowerColor Radeon HD4770 512MB GDDR5
- Monitor: 30" Dell 3007WFP-HC (2560x1600)
- OS: Kubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 + xorg-edgers PPA

I will attach some logs of a KMS boot.
