It's not working systematically....
What I do when I choose the kernel in grub is the following :
I get a message about symbols missing...
and one about the sd card reader...
at this point I hammer Fn + F8, which is to switch external/internal monitor...
I get PPPPPPPPPPPP on each press, then there is a message about i915, at which point my Fn + F8 shows ^P instead...
I continue pressing, the screen goes blank, changes resolution then most of the time the same information reappears.
This is good, my monitor is active.
Sometimes it stays blank, so I power off and try again.
it mostly works.
Now, with a docking station and external monitor, most of the time it displays the normal screen on both monitors.
Sometimes the internal monitor is off, so I press ALT+E when I see KDM is started, to restart X server.
This works.
