If by "X" you mean the standard X-Windows GUI, yes, I simply downloaded the Beta ISO, burned to a CD, installed on the "run without installing"... and installed... then it booted from the hard drive.
I commiserate. Is it possible that there are different versions of the 10.10 Beta? Is it possible that there are significant differences between the E6410 and E6510? Finally, although you say "Intel CPU", perhaps you have a different graphics card: I have the Intel one supplied by Dell. You may have sthg like Nvidia...?
My install is like a dream: already got VirtualBox up and running! And I'm a complete newbie.
