additional hint: 'lsmod | grep rt28' output differs, the differences are:
2.6.32-24:
rt2860sta 498817 1
crc_ccitt 1339 2 rt2800pci,rt2860sta
2.6.32-25
rt2860sta 498817 0
crc_ccitt 1339 2 rt2860sta,rt2800pci

meaning the rt2860sta driver on the 2.6.32-25 kernel is loaded but not used?
