Bug Description

Just installed kubuntu netbook remix 9.10 on a dell mini 10 (came with ubuntu 8.04 pre-installed).
Microphone does not work but worked on the 8.04.
It looks like the issue reported for jaunty (bug #394793 ) but I don't know if it is the same bug and I can't find a working solution.

It works fine on our Mini 10v, in fact it now works much better than before with much clearer recordings so I don't think this is the same as the 9.04 bug.

More details about this problem:
 - The built-in microphone does not work (worked with 8.04 dell lpia build)
 - The external microphone works but there is not mic-boost option

I had the same problem, but it was enough to open Sound Preferences -> Input, then un-check "mute" for input device.

Hi,

I can confirm that on my Dell Mini 10 the mike is NOT working.
If I go to Sound Preferences, Input, it's all grey.
In "hardware" there's just "Internal Audio 1 Output", no sign of a mike...

Help? :-D

Hi,

Need to correct myself.
In Hardware, I get the following profiles:

* Analog stereo input
* HDMI output
* HTMI Output + Analog stereo input
* Analog Stereo Output
* analog stereo duplex

Picking the last one, in the Input section the mike is not greyed out. Selecting "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" works, but Input level is always 0 (nothing compares in the bars) and it just doesn't record anything...

Sorry about my lame earlier report...

Bye!

Merc.

Still an issue with Karmic and dell mini 10. I can switch to the internal mic in alsamixer, but the internal mic doesn't work.

Hi PouletFou,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 469346

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
