Just want to add that the same "Safely remove drive" option works just fine for Kingston 4 GB USB memory stick and Verbatim 1 GB USB memory stick and gives no errors with them.

Hello
is this problem present with the latest updated Karmic's or Lucid's packages?

I don't know about Lucid, but it is still present with the Karmic.

I want add that this only happens with the Maxtor drive. I also have 1TB Iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive and it works just fine.

affects: ubuntu → mountall (Ubuntu)

I just tested this with Maverick (10.10) beta and the bug is still present.

When selecting "Safely Remove Drive" for the Maxtor drive I get a dialog with an error message:

Error Detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sdb
USB device: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2/2-2)
SYNCHRONIZE CACHE: OK
STOP UNIT: FAILED: No such file or directory

The Iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive still works fine so the problem only exists with the Maxtor drive.

It also happens with Maverick final. I only tried with a Kingston DataTraveler G2 16GB USB memory stick.

Here's what the dialog window shows:

The same problem doesn't happen with others USB HD (at least not NTFS).
Maybe a NTFS problem?

STOP UNIT: FAILED: No such file or directory

Maybe the name of device " /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1.3"
is the problem.
Or the "order" of commands removing the filename, leading to "no such file" ...
Also ntfs disk.
Below are outputs from some commands:
