Please note that the new DSDT is specific to my configuration (Core i7 720QM).

I'm still not convinced this is the end of it though. Jaunty still ran hot and sucked a lot of power (<1h on a full battery simply idling). It's like throttling still isn't working.

On the up side, before I got rid of the namespace error, I've seen it do an 'orderly shutdown' due to overheating, proving that the thermal zone trip points work now.

I laud Linus' idea of working around ACPI quirks in the kernel, but working around missing methods and intentional disinformation? I really think the Kernel devs pulled custom DSDT support too soon and I'd like to see it reinstated until there is something else in place first. There's enough BIOS horror stories (like these) for the Kernel devs to chew on scattered around Launchpad.
