I have this problem in 8.04.1.

If I run asoundconf list, I get:
Please note that you are attempting to run asoundconf as a privileged superuser, which may have unintended consequences.

Names of available sound cards:
Live
SI7012
UART

But really SI7012 is not my default card. At least it does not sound.
