Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-sis

From http://www.winischhofer.at/linuxsispart3.shtml#faq:
Q: Tuxracer is terribly slow on my SiS 315/550/650/651/330/661/741/760/761/340/XGI Vx

A: DRI and hardware accelerated OpenGL/3D is not supported on these chipsets. I don't know how many times I must say this. And besides, I don't do any DRI related development.

Hi!

I just wanted to create this bug report too right now.
Because ubuntu likes 3d and includes compiz (even if it is switched off by default), but this will never run on any sis 760 graphic card.

Thanks for you if you can work on this.

Martin

Same here, I am using a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A7460 and I had bought this laptop to work on it for at least another three years, but it seems for Ubuntu it is already outdated.
I know that it should be possible to fix the issue, because 3D works wihtout any problems on Windows and even Vista Aero is supported and you all know that we are better than them ;-)

the fact that the direct rendering is disabled cause an overheating of the processor of my laptop ( it's an ACER aspire 3003 wlmi) and it's quite embarrassing.

This is something that won't be worked on by Ubuntu developers, only upstream in the DRI project:

the Person responsible for this is becoming increasingly more difficult to contact. Perhaps someone should notify upstream immediately.

I admit that it would be nice if we get DRI support for SiS chipsets.

But actually I could work without and I don't complain about this lack.

If developers may just work about the xserver-xorg-video-sis flutter-bug (white stripes ont the left of the screen since intrepid ibex) it would be really nice.

Regards.

Wishing 3D support... when there isn't really *ANY* support right now. There is a bug in X.org 7.4, used by Intrepid, which makes 'sis' driver unusable at all... If this is not being fixed for quite a long time, I wouldn't expect 3D support to be included.

Another thing is that SiS ignores Linux completely, so it's only a good will of Thomas Winischhofer, that he implemented all that. He have seemed to be unreachable for some time, though.

While this is a legitimate issue, it's not one that can be fixed in the Lucid timeframe, so I am declining the Lucid nomination on this bug. Really, effort should focus on getting this bug some attention upstream, as that is where the work really needs to be done.

we can conclude that this will never happen, there is no DRI2 driver for sis
