Just for the record, this is a:
K8V-MX (mainboard) ASUS machine.
Chances are high that this boils down to be a BIOS issue.
Check for latest BIOS (eventually there even is a network card firmware upgrade?) and update is probably the first step (Nothing is more annoying than spending a lot time for a bug which already got fixed in BIOS).
If you update the BIOS, please resend acpidump.
