Problem also occurs in the following specs:

installation: 9.10 upgrade from 9.04 AMD 64
motherboard: ECS GeForce100PM-M2 with Phoenix -Award Workstation BIOS
vcard: inno3D Nvidia 7200 GS PCI-E
ram: non-ECC 2 GB
processor: AMD LE 1640
vdriver: nvidia 185 proprietary activated

Would compiling a custom kernel with ECC disabled (if it is possible) work?
