I just upped my kernel + linux-backports-modules from git...
And, it's a lot more usable now. For the first time, I could transfer an ISO from the desktop to laptop over wlan - it was still slow; but much much better than previous cases.
Also, the rfkill-disable patch is no longer needed since that code is removed from wireless-testing git tree itself (from where compat-wireless comes).
