Colan and Bernard,

Since you're having this problem in Lucid and I'm not, might it be helpful (for someone smarter than me) to compare pertinent parts of my file system to yours? If anyone can advise me as to how to produce the pertinent output, I'd be glad to post it here.

I should add that I did have this problem several months ago but I'm afraid I have no idea how I got around it.
