Ok, the only difference I see is that I have the i8042.reset=1 in the second line (without the _DEFAULT).
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i8042.reset=1"
You can try this and see if it works.
