This bugs sucks ( Oneiric, HP Probook 4720s). Like Greg Michalec, I find sudo swapoff -a to be the quickest way to get rid of the incredible sluggishness. Also, the swap gets deallocated (and the contents thereof moved to RAM) a lot faster if the swapoff process is given very high or maximum priority. This is still more of a quick fix than a solution I'd like to see.
