it seems we are left in the cold with this one :(

the 'official' driver says our cards are legacy (mine is 2 years old actually, and it was the top of the line ATI laptop video card at that time), while they are 'too new' for the open source driver to handle it properly.

this is a major setback for such ATI users :(
