I had problem with usb flash card as well as sd card. I have an ASUS Eee PC r101 running Natty Narwhale. uname -a:
"Linux partik-eee 2.6.35-28-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 18 18:42:20 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux"

dmesg gave me something that ended with something like:

"[ 2783.412065] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk"

But it didnt mount. I tried https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount/USB which worked for the flash card and after a reformat ubuntu mounts it automatic. The manual mount of the sd card worked as well, but I tried the same thing there, format. But with no success. When I tried to mount it semi-automatic, by clicking mount in disk tools (diskverktyg). It said error and this:

"Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on /
mount failed"

sda1 is my hdd.
