After the upgrade, I now have kernel 2.6.28-11 installed on my system, probably they fixed something and works better with the nvidia-glx-180 driver. Do not forget, your configuration is different than mine. I posted the bug specifically for the new version of the nvidia proprietary driver. You have , as you mentioned, an ATI graphics card, which totally changes things. If there is no bug relevant to your case, I suggest you file one yourself, providing your own configuration.
