Tim Kosse, your original solution (removing the Sansa e2x0 entries from /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi) works great for me.
I have not yet tried patching gPhoto to not try and handle USB mass storage devices, but in my opinion this is a sorely needed update. It is quite mystifying to connect a USB drive and not see any device nodes get created!!!
And /var/lib/messages gives no indication of the voodoo done by HAL, which made it even harder to track this bug down for me... :-(
