So I basically can imagine 4 reasons why this instructions work for you but not for me:
1) You experience a different bug than I am (maybe because you have different hardware)
2) Your software-setup is different
3) Your configuration is different
4) I am not suffering from this bug anymore
I tested your instructions with Composite enabled and disabled in my xorg.conf but X never crashed or freezed. Although my xorg did not crash at all since I disabled Composite. But maybe thats just by chance.
