i have a Lenovo Ideapad S10e which runs Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and discovered the same problem. The touchpad "stutters" and is nearly unuseable.

and after a while the touchpad stops working and i get:

[111391.955004] i8042.c: Can't write CTR while closing AUX port.
[111393.523214] i8042.c: Can't write CTR while closing AUX port.
[111465.250454] i8042.c: Can't write CTR while closing AUX port.
The kernel-param i8042.nomux doesn't work for me, but the i8042.dumbkbd=1 does. All problems are gone, no side-effects discovered.
