I installed the latest upstream kernels and noticed the same issue. I tested the following versions: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
- v2.6.32.9/linux-image-2.6.32-02063209-generic_2.6.32-02063209_i386.deb -> same issue
- v2.6.33/linux-image-2.6.33-020633-generic_2.6.33-020633_i386.deb -> same issue
- v2.6.34-rc1/linux-image-2.6.34-020634rc1-generic_2.6.34-020634rc1_i386.deb -> this kernel version don't boot on my system
So it seems to me that this bug is an upstream problem.
