Bug Description

I loaded ubuntu netbook remix on an HP Mini 1000 (Specific model is 1010NR). To get the install to proceed I had to use 'linux acpi=off'. Post-install reboots still require 'acpi=off' to boot.

I can confirm this bug on HP 2140. Without acpi=off I get instant reboot. However with acpi=off it starts booting, but ends up with blank screen. I'm using daily image from 3/13/2009.

Correction: I end up with blank screen if I want to try liveCD, I get to the installer screen if I choose install.

I've tried todays daily build. Situation is the same. So I've tried to install it with acpi=off parameter. When the installation is over(bar hits 100%) there's blank screen nothing else. Grub is not set up correctly (not at all), so I recovered grub by instructions found on wiki. After booting from installed jaunty unr it ends up either with blank screen or with gdm, but keyboard nor touchpad is responding. I started recovery mode to gather logs. Hope they'll be helpfull.

For the HP Mini 1000 there is an updated firmware that fixes this problem. The firmware is here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-68181-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=3832471

Ok, I've finally sucesfully booted with today's daily build with noapic parameter. But still there're issues like ethernet card not working etc... But i've finally booted, yay. But why I have to boot with noapic parameter?

Sorry for flooding, but I've finally found solution. If I turn off dual cpu support in my bios I boot without any problem without any addition boot parameter.... The HP mini is equipped with atom n270 so I don't need support for dual core cpus anyway...

i had a similar problem with my hp 2140. it didn't boot with kernel 2.6.28 and DC power plugged in. everything else works!

it turns out this is solved in 2.6.29.1 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12984

I added one parameter in grub boot parameter.
Parameter is nosmp.

I can plugged DC power when I booting the HP mini 2140.

Disable Dual Core options in 2140 of BIOS is one choice.

Hi josh,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 324920

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
