After latest update of acpi-support in dapper I faced similar problem with shutdown. Mine was hanging at the stage of shutting down LVM. I removed LVM (which wasn't needed anyway) and it is working perfectly now.

I will try to verify this on my PC and let you guys know. Meanwhile should I mark this as acpi-support bug?
