Laptop's Brightness Settings Not Remembered

3) When gdm starts the laptop screen dims (probably to the same level as when the laptop is on battery mode). One has to manually change the brightness. Also after the screen saver has come on, or the laptop is resumed from suspend the laptop screen has dimmed and needs to be manually reset to its prior settings.

4) This bug seems to have been introduced in this latest kernel update. If the laptop is booted with earlier kernels everything works fine.
