I had a similar problem on rare occasions under Ubuntu 9.10, but much more frequently since updating to Ubuntu 10.4 a few days ago.
A few minutes after logging in, the left click function ceases to work. The scroll button also fails on occasion.
The problem affects both the built-in mouse on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501 with AMD64 dual processor) and my USB mouse.
The mouse is from Targus. lsusb output gives the following identifying information: ID 0458:0007 KYE Systems Corp. (Mouse Systems).
