Bug Description

I think there is a problem on module configuration or webcam support. My computer is an Acer Aspire 5100-5196, and my webcam is a Acer Orbicam:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 5986:0100 Acer, Inc OrbiCam

When I try to use cheese, after a long waiting, the webcam indicator led lights up, but cheese halts and no image is exhibited.

On Ubuntu 8.04 it works fine.

Hi, thanks for your report, is it possible for you to test if this bug still exists with fully updated Intrepid?

If it is still an issue can you send as separate attachments the output for the following files?

uname -a > uname-a.log
      cat /proc/version_signature > proc_version_signature.log
      sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log (those are 2 v's not a w)
      dmesg > dmesg.log
      lsusb > lsusb.log
      lshal > lshal.log

Thanks in advance

hi, i'm marking this as a dupe from bug # 290506. All your data points to that.

This issue is solved now by kernel update in proposed repos and a libv4l update also in proposed repos (or almost there).

Please, can you check that bug in order to know what to do so you can get your webcam back?

Thanks for your info

Regards,

Thank you for marking it as duplicate. I am (in general) quite new to
linux as I've just recently started trying to find bugs and randomly
come upon them as I use linux day to day. I didn't know that xsane was
responsible for /dev/video0 not working properly, if that is the case.
In a side note I had to switch to another distribution since the latest
updates were applied which caused the computer to halt suddenly and A
LOT. I might switch back to 8.04 if I get bored with this distro.
