The same problem happens to me, but not all the time. The machine can run for days without kipmi0 even showing up in top. But once it starts using 100% of CPU, it's there until reboot.
I've blacklisted ipmi_si in /etc/modprobe.d and never seen this again. However, it happened infrequently, so I can't be sure it really helped.
