Re-assigning to the kernel for reason in comment above. I notice you've tried to upgrade the kernel on a live CD. What seems to have happened is that update-initramfs doesn't run (because you're on a live CD), and then it fails to create the sym-link to the initrd (because it hasn't been created yet) |

Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug.
