I've tried removing the keyboard/mouse and I still got the same problem, so maybe that's not it?
I have a wireless card that's a Belkin F5D7000 with a realtek rtl8185 chipset. Is the rtl8180 kernel module loaded by default in Alpha 4? If so, I can try removing the wireless card from the PC and see if I can get into gnome then.
Sorry that there isn't more technical info in this, but I can try different things that anyone suggests in order to resolve this.
