I'm sorry but it actually isn't. Let's look at the '/var/log/kern.log*' files I have available on my system:

-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 0 2008-08-12 08:49 /var/log/kern.log
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 1.8M 2008-08-11 07:47 /var/log/kern.log.0
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 269K 2008-08-10 08:11 /var/log/kern.log.1.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 167K 2008-08-09 08:14 /var/log/kern.log.2.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 285K 2008-08-08 08:10 /var/log/kern.log.3.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 330K 2008-08-07 08:18 /var/log/kern.log.4.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 306K 2008-08-06 08:32 /var/log/kern.log.5.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 410K 2008-08-05 08:21 /var/log/kern.log.6.gz

You can see I have kernel log files back to August 5th, with kern.log.6.gz covering from 08-05 to 08-06. If you could include a log file that covers a time period where the crash happened that would help us a lot.
