thanks for the help and info but i've since had to revert back to xp as
ubuntu stopped working altogether. i've been trying different setups and
program/ update combinations trying to find a stable configuration and hoped
ubuntu/linux would answer the problem but it was less stable than xp as it
only lasted about 3-4 days before becoming unusable. at this point maybe
vista is the answer..... yeah right!
