WPA also fails for me on 8.10. Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 05). WEP or unsecured work fine. Point of failure seems to be at

NetworkManager: <info> Activation (eth1/wireless): asking for new secrets
NetworkManager: <WARN> get_secrets_cb(): Couldn't get connection secrets: Requested string is empty.

Then it dies and gives up.
