Bug Description

Binary package hint: alsa-base

On my laptop, ASUS X57-AS022C (mobo m50sa), when inserting headphones, no matter what options are selected, speakers are not muted.

lspci gives:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

tail -2 /proc/asound/oss/sndstat gives:
0: Realtek ALC888
1: Generic 1002 ATI R6xx HDMI

Kernel is hardy stock kernel 2.6.24-generic

Tried inserting various modes in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, modes like "asus, laptop, 3stack, 3stack-dig, lenovo etc".
Nothing has solved the problem.

System was working great on Gutsy.

This bug has been affecting me since Hardy. Until Gutsy it was fine. I've tried all the suggestions out on the forums, to no avail. The headphones don't mute the speakers automatically. I have to mute the speakers manually everytime. In karmic, there are two modes, headphone and speakers. So now I have to manually select the Headphone mode.

Why doesn't it happen automatically?

Currently I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 beta with all the latest updates installed to-date.

Laptop model: Acer Aspire 4710 Codec: ALC268
